How My Intern Experience at Haddee Helped Me Get Accepted by Cornell
A former Haddee intern describes choosing Cornell’s ILR School and how her internship shaped her application and essays.
Ivy · Haddee intern

Hiii! I’m Ivy, Haddee’s intern and college applicant. Last year I applied to Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations with the help of Haddee. At the beginning of the application season, I did not pay attention to Cornell, but after reading my resume, Ms. Pont strongly recommended that I apply to Cornell’s ILR School (I definitely do not regret this choice—thank you, Ms. Pont!).
The college application is a comprehensive process, each part of which is closely linked, so how you combine your grades, activities, awards, and essays to show that you are “the right one” is very important.
My activities in high school mainly focused on business. Ms. Pont found that many of my past experiences were related to “people,” so I chose the ILR School, which was more related to my activities/interests in high school, instead of a business major, which was more competitive. The combination of major and experience is the key reason why Cornell finally accepted me.
One of my high school activities that was most meaningful to me was my internship at Haddee. It is known to all that it is difficult for a high school student to get a formal internship, but Haddee was willing to provide a structured system to give high school students the opportunity to practice. Different from many internships that only lasted two or three months, I have been working as an intern at Haddee for more than a year. From Business/Marketing Intern at the beginning to Digital Marketing Co-Manager later, I grew up together with Haddee over this year.
One of my favorite things about Haddee is that you have so many opportunities to explore different fields: marketing, management, market research, engineering, etc. At Haddee, I have met people from all over the world with different backgrounds and worked and studied in different positions. All the programs I have participated in have given me the opportunity to see the real world of work, as well as valuable experience in marketing, leadership, communication, and other aspects. These experiences also provide good material and inspiration for my essay. My main essay is presented in a montage form, part of which is about my internship at Haddee. These two passages are taken from my essays:
“Looking into the mirror one day, the girl I saw looked familiar yet strange. There was something I couldn’t recognize. However, after staring long enough, I saw a new Ivy, one that resembled the old Ivy, but was stronger and savvier.”
“I realized business is not only about theories in books, but much more. The roadblocks, the risks, and how to manage the disconnect between expectation and reality can hold back even the best businessman with the best products and most experience.”
Haddee has its own mature internship system. Interns at Haddee are assigned to different departments according to their characteristics/interests from the first day of entry, and managers of these departments will also guide and train them.
Finally, I also want to thank Dandan, who later provided an internship recommendation letter from the industry in her capacity as my internship supervisor.
I grew with Haddee.
